Our Tumuaki

Kia ora,

A very warm welcome to all visitors to our school website. I am delighted to be the principal of Te Horo School and to welcome you to our school community.

Our community is unique in that it is rural based in beautiful Northland, enjoying strong links to Tau Henare Marae and Te Orewai hapu. The rest of the community is made up of: supportive parents, skilled teachers, conscientious support staff, an industrious Board of Trustees (BOT) and of course our wonderful tamariki.

At Te Horo School, we believe that relationships are the key to successful teaching and learning. Our teachers and ancillary staff work very hard to make everyone feel welcome and to ensure that our values of: Respect, Readiness and Resilience are lived out on a daily basis.

At Te Horo School our programmes emphasize the development of strong literacy and numeracy skills, emotional development and thinking skills, exploration, collaboration and cooperative learning. We teach an integrated curriculum in which learning is based around authentic local, regional, national and world topics. Our tamariki are encouraged to work hard, try hard, play hard, learn well and have fun every day.

It is a privilege to be involved in a kura that encourages partnership in learning and has high expectations for children’s achievement and behaviour. Te Horo School is governed by a dedicated BOT and staffed by committed teachers and personnel who work tirelessly to support students to achieve their full potential: educationally, culturally, socially and in sports.

I value the relationship our school has fostered with the Te Horo/Pipiwai community and look forward to your involvement in our school.

Nga mihi mahana
